Welcome to The Cycle, a panel ensemble show hosted by MSNBC contributors Steve Kornacki, S.E Cupp, Krystal Ball, and Touré. The Cycle is a TIS show- topical, interesting, and smart. All four hosts will take turns facilitating the discussion and bring an interesting voice and background to the topics discussed each day.
This blog will serve as an extension from the program where every day we will post videos from the show along with commentary on what was discussed during the hour.
Be sure to tune in every weekday at 3pm et, 12pm pt, on MSNBC to see what these four bring to the table and check back here for brand new content!
Don't miss the premier Monday June, 25th at 3pm!

everyday = ordinary
every day = daily
End of the first week...They are teaching (and at the same time learning) "Civil Discourse" as well as bringing it back to the viewers. Disagreement does not have to be equivalent to absolute hatred as Political "actors" must act out. The panel members are highly intelligent, professional and together bring new light to the term discussion vs. offering one sided opinions. Each hold their own opinions but make a contribution to important daily issues which is heavily laden with politics. If you don't like it, turn it off or change your viewing habits. Those of you so critical about each individual...could YOU do what they do? Do you even "LISTEN" to the content of their communication before judging them and against what standards do you form YOUR opinions? Those of you so critical do not even know how to be good consumers of informational content.
It would be EASY to listen if "not so intelligent" S. E. would say something.... ANYTHING.... that hadn't been tweeted to her by Limbaugh, Rove or Romney...
And that irritating habit of "INTERRUPTING" intelligent, cogent ideas... makes her arrogant AND annoying...
If anyone wants to know what S.E.'s contribution to the show is going to be just watch "FIXED NEWS" the night before. Those comments are shallow and a far cry from informational content... The other co-hosts try to carry-on despite her irritating behavior but alas... she's also EXTREMELY LOUD and OBNOXIOUS!!!
And not to worry, if MSNBC's producers dont correct this... a show with enormous potential is going to go down the tubes
The idea of show is good. "Younger Persepective". some good topics.
For the most part show is interesting, I enjoy Krystal Ball and Toure. Intelligent, accurate factual. They understand what they are saying; it comes thru.
However se cupp is not in the same league as other commentators. she is loud arrogant, mis informed, bias, sounds like the right wing radio birther type. She does not enhance your Program. I have had more respect for the Jounalism of MSNBC in the past. However; don't know about this one..she just loudly , arrogantly, repeats the far out right lies..really hope trump doesn't become a commentator..
get rid of se cupp/yuk
I agree with Redshoes4. S. E. Cupp adds nothing to your show, but severe irritation. Her arrogant, overbearing manner is so obviously disgusting. I never understood how so many people with so much education could be so different in their observations of the same thing. Ms Cupp, like most Republicans will defend the indefensible to the death. She is sickening and repulsive to this viewer. Please kick her to the curb, and hire someone with some class.
Please S.E. Cupp, very loud and obnoxious and enough of that. I'm not your boss however I do watch everyday! S.E. Just take the gun out of any equation and no accidental or intentional killing regardless of the situation, we are gun owners my son is in Marine Corp. assault type weapons are not intended for use outside law-enforcement or military. Your rational on 1/9/13 was completely off base!
Krstall Ball - really? Toure- Give me a break... So you can't come up with original ideas so you you copy Fox News 5 at 5 with minor tweaks?
This loser of a new organization should just go away....
You first. But then where would you post?
msnbc is not a news organization
Fox is really not a news organization. If you don't like - you don't watch. Plain enough for your intellect - unreal?
@ unreal.... You must be confused. You must have Krystal and Toure confused with some detached from reality "Faux" News star. No self-respecting liberal pundit on television would copy anything that comes from a fox news station.
this might come as a surprise, but there are American Citizens, who really really love MSNBC shows, and are grateful, in a Fox/Conservative Media dominated nation - that they (MSNBC) recognize that there are millions and millons of us - who look for news based on facts - my goodness, the Texas GOP actually put in their platform, that they want to end educational programs teaching the basics of "Critical thinking" in their schools, as it threatens the authority of their parents "beliefs" - God Save US, indeed, indeed -
Yeah Jessica...when I got desperate during the long campaign, I just had to go to Maddow, Schultz, O'Donnel and Bashir to get a good dose of reality. And I agree with the commentators here about C C Cupp...she adds nothing to the show except an irritating tendency to repeat Faux Noise talking points and try to talk over the others. I do wish ALL of them were a little less willing to laugh at each other's clever quips.
Wish I could vote countless time for this comment!!
I was surprised to see SE Cupp in the list...i was shocked that MSNBC hired her, given her staunch conservative views...she is smarter than all 3 combined, and will make the other 3 all look silly...She'll toe the line and challenge them all...
that is, if the show makes it out of 1 week...
SE Cupp is repellant.
I've seen S.E. Cupp on "Now With Alex" quite a few times. While I find little to agree with, I have to give her credit for being logically coherent with respect to her point of view.
So, to me, that was an intelligent hiring decision.
S.E. & Krystall, being close to polar opposites, and both being coherent with respect to their political philosophies will keep each other sharper than either would ever be if just having a discussion with someone who agrees with them or who is a neutral observer. [Given that I'm close to Krystall, regarding political philosophy, S.E. will help keep me "on my toes" too - much more so than Alex Castellaños or Leslie Sanchez, or any other pure political animal would.]
Kornacki & Touré will help flesh it out and broaden the perspective.
At any rate, I've enjoyed both shows so far. (Granted that a sample size of 2 is useless for extrapolating probabilities, the deck is still stacked if I expect that I'm going to enjoy an episode of the show before it begins.)
Will somebody tell S. E. you are not considered a juvenile at 18. You can do everything including die for this country, but you can't legally buy alcohol.
Yes, and on Alex Wagner her fangs were showing when she disagreed with a guest from planned parenthood. Very nasty at best.
Know your facts - S.E. Cupp is just there to get the conservative hack repellant view squashed. She is a nobody.
She is a nobody? So what term do you use for Touré and Krystal that is lower than nobody?
I agree. SC Cupp is annoying to listen to as a guest to have to listen to her daily is making me want to turn off the TV. At least Michael Steel is more conciliatory and not as up in your face as SC Cupp!
Well, SE (wonder what her nickname is?) did end the Thursday show with goodwill towards the others. :)
SE Cupp...I can only repeat what was said about Marco Rubio:
Marco Rubio trots out what may be the lamest defense of Mitt Romney ... ever
byBarbara MorrillFollowforDaily Kos
Really, Marco?
Really, Marco?
Well, sure. Honey, pack up the kids, quit your job and sell the house. We're moving where they don't have health insurance.
Dumbass.
if it doesn't make it you can thank se cupp, she should be on the Entertainment network ie: fox, rush, beck type.
she's loud, far out right can't stand her..yuk
she doesn't sound like she's smarter; Prefer Krystal Ball
On the cycle today, SE said that statutory rape is rape that the victim allows, and since the FBI defines rape as either forcible or statutory there was nothing wrong with Ryan & Atkins defining rape as forcible. First of all, statutory rape is rape with a child under age, & alive human beings know exactly what the reptilians meant when they wanted to clarify the definition of rape. For those of you who don't know, it was to say, since there are women who like rape, it was important to clarify the differences.
Can't stand S. E. Cupp. Smart? she certainly thinks so.
Have a great show folks! I'm in a library studying, so is there any way I can see it live from here or later, get a podcast?
LOL, love that Toure is the main host and will make mincemeat of SE Cupp. Most neocons are afraid to come on MSNBC because they are exposed as fools.
Funny stuff there, Ralph! Unfortunately, some peole here may think that you are serious.
Ralph,I'm with You!
SE Cupp should be on Fox she is so irritating.
Show is only a few minutes into its premier and Toure has already been corrected by Pete Williams regarding the SCOTUS immigration ruling and Mike Sacks disagreed with his comments regarding racial profiling. What an inauspicious start to a promising show.
I'm calling them the "new scoobie gang".
Tell hosts to stop waving hands in front of camera and other faces on camera!
Gutzy Move! I just happened to be watching the network when I stumbled across the debut of this new show. I think it's a refreshing idea. I'm probably the same age as the cast's parents - so my generation is used to the Walter Cronkites, Sam Donaldsons, Tom Brokaws, Barbara "WaWa's," etc. of my time.
Given where we are in this age of "Information" & "Technology," and the nano-second news cycle, it seems to me the network is working to stay in concert with what seems to be the new face of journalism. S.E. Cupp's appearance frightened me at 1st but, frankly, in a focus-group setting like this. A little (and I do me LITTLE) objective can be a healthy thing and cause for fiery debates.
First show but.....so far, I like the idea. Way to go MSNBC!
LOVE THE CYCLE..all the Young guns..Thanks to Alex Whitt who had all of them on her show and I watched thinking how smart and sharp. I am 67 yrs. of age,,so if I like it I am sure the younger set will.
Nice show. Congrats!!
Another call for "bipartisanship"? That would imply the proverbial "two-way street" that has rarely existed in US politics. For a pol to be "bipartisan" today is solely to concede to the Republican agenda. Republicans proudly express their contempt for bipartisanship UNLESS they they don't the upper hand. It is precisely this concept of "bipartisanship" that has caused so much damage to the country. "Bipartisan" today means "surrender," not "compromise."
I stand corrected on including S.E. and looking forward to this show developing! I'll try to not wear the curmudgeon hat for at least this week!
That the left and the right should talk to each other and not at each other is an ambitious mission statement during an election year...So no talking points please and keep up the good work...The hour goes by fast because its fun and thumbs up because MSNBC doesn't seem to be morphing into Fox after all.
Maybe if Cupp hears something other than Fox's BS everyday, she might wise up. It will be a revelation for her to hear the truth for a change, I'm sure.
I like Krystal and Steve. Haven't heard that much from Toure up until now. Can't say I'm sorry Dylan Ratigan is gone.
I watch Dylan Ratigan for a good part of his show's run and never really got the tie-in to the MSNBC theme: "The place for politics". In fact, I think Dylan was disturbed that anyone would consider him as doing political analyses. To me, the Dylan Ratigan Show was always putoff-ish.
(I am not saying that Dylan needed to endear himself to President Obama or democrats, nor the democratic party, for me to understand him. It is just that, like Cenk Uygur (The Young Turks), he seemed comfortably ill-suited to the time allotted him.) Even the weeklong sendoff seem off-ish for cable television.
MJB, give it mere "seconds" and Toure can handle sharkish TV. I have seen him on other shows and networks. (Though, there was a moment when he was delivering his "spill" today on The Cycle when immediately afterwards I experienced a moment of The View deja vu.) Also SE Cupp is of GBTV and Daily News --to name only a few of her conservative bonafides. SE Cupp is no push over, yet let me be clear, she carries a "pocketful" of conservative talking points when I see her (prior) on-air. More later. :)
Great show!...Looks like MSNBC isn't morphing into Fox after all...Smart and fun.
Yes, not morphing into FOX, but simply stealing their ideas. Have you ever watched The Five? What is that phrase about imitation...
To me the idea of shows like this should be considered to be an answer to the daily crap that you see on Fox. This show deals in facts, and includes people who have the ability to make accurate observations and to think critically. No one with IQs above room temperature is going to say that about Fox Sleaze.
My first impressions are:
The show has great potential.
You are all suffering from the new show jitters, which is normal.
It seems you are all trying a little too hard to be cute. Don't do it!
I'm sure when you get more comfortable with each other and format of the show, good things will come.
My thoughts exactly BooCoo! Great minds think alike. LOL :)
i agree with you BooCoo... but i was wondering if the discomfort is mostly a function of Our own ability to immediately embrace the refreshingly new concept of their show??? It was President Reagan that said: Trust, but Verify!!! Which is the initial reaction i had to the show, but i have been riveted, enlightened and thoroughly delighted with the conversations they have brought to the table...
Way to go all and keep up the great work!!!
If "The Cycle" by name refers to the standard news cycle, then their agenda is cycle driven, like most every other show of the same nature, and so constrained to time-limited discussion that is never fleshed-out before the next item on agenda, a subject generally limited to only those topics already in the cycle. Good first show. I hope they show everyon something different.
Me too!
'Cycle' team do something exciting with your time beyond "sawing" back & forth and I bet you the show will be a hit! As 'Boo-Coo' suggests, don't become tedious talkers. Be factual and above all stimulating. In other words, be yourselves! You each have stupendous resumes and points of views
BTW, one thing I like about Dylan Ratigan: He brought you all on his air!! Kudos to Dylan for doing that.
Doubt "The Cycle" will report on this
A new poll released Monday by The Hill shows a “clear majority” of likely voters nationwide believe that President Barack Obama is over-reaching with his assertion of executive privilege over Operation Fast and Furious documents.
Overall, The Hill said 56 percent of likely voters nationwide disapproved of Obama’s assertion of executive privilege in this case, while 29 percent approved.
A total of 61 percent of independents disapproved of Obama’s actions, while only 25 percent approved. Seventy-eight percent of Republicans disapproved of Obama’s executive privilege move, as did 28 percent of Democrats and 30 percent of liberals
Is that what Fox told you? If Obama is keeping it quiet, it's because it might put someones life in danger. As for yelling about Fast & Furious, where was all the outrage when it was called Operation Wide Receiver under Bush?? Once Holder found out how flawed this operation was, he shut it down. Now, like the good little Repub attack dogs they are, they're trying to get Holder out. Not just for F&F, but because he's fighting the voter suppression laws. And to pick Darrell Issa to head the committee is the height of hypocrisy. That crook never should have been elected to Congress. Accused of setting fire to a building for the insurance money, carrying a concealed weapon, stealing a Maserati and the list goes on.
juststatingitasitis spamming as usual.
MJB you are one mean beautiful cat! Ditto. And this is a mean spirited (every 4 years) let's herd, 'er gather our republican posse and wrangle, sorry get them to the polls.
'Cause you know that with a scandal involving guns, an Attorney General, and whoohoo(!) a President, the buzzwords alone will blind the mind of voters who are too busy to give the "issue" proper evaluation.
Republicans call this type of "smackdown": "Money in the bank!"
Support AG Holder! Call DOJ today!
I looked at the report from the HILL. you just distorted the truth... which makes it a lie...
want to site something accurate?
You guys did great! Congrats! S.E. is a sharp girl, but I'm sure
the three of you will have no problem keeping her in check...lol!
I agree with you Toure...keep your friends close and your enemies’ even closer...and we definitely don't need another Fox News Show.
Good job MSNBC for giving them a chance and adding a twist that
will spark debate...they are all young, fresh and smart, great addition to your
line-up!
What crap! MSNBC Replaces Ratigan (the network's champion of straight talk, non-partisan solutions to America's dysfunctional 'culture of greed') with an irreverent (and irrelevant) chummy, hip, feel-good, let's all get along, 'Mod Squad''. This lovable band of misfits is complete with the 'instant celebrity expert' (and YouTube 'bad girl'), the plucky, seductively husky-voiced conservative chick with the 'naughty librarian' glasses, the straight-laced progressive establishment guy and the self-effacing token black dude.
The giddy, giggling 'partisan' repartee had all the naivete and saccharine sweet civility of a Family Channel sit-com. This lighthearted rinse-Cycle of the day's political events, will soften your brain and leave your living room with a smell of lavender. "The Cycle" replaces Chris Mathew's wishy-washy "Hardball" as my least favorite program in the lineup (with the over-the-top Ed Schultz ("Let's get the 'righties!") Show" a close third.
Looking back over his shoulder, I'm sure Dylan is reassured he made the right move.
And I'm pretty sure it wasn't Dylan's idea. The Cycle kids might have been on their best behavior since it was their first day. Hopefully it will get down and a little dirtier soon.
So Ken, "the self-effacing token black dude." Is that how Toure came across to you today? Well, hold your pen up...methinks you are going to love writing about that one.
Oh! That one has a name: Touré and he has a way with words!!
A great debut!
I share the distaste that some have expressed for S.E. Cupp, but watching four people agree with one another for an hour every day would be nothing to watch at all. Besides, she's clearly very intelligent and, in an environment in which she won't likely get away with saying batty things unchallenged, she very well might emerge from the show a formidable conservative intellectual. And the country needs at least one.
Great show so far and good luck to all.

I cringed watching the debut show.
S.E. Cupp: total, unredeemable jerk (and I say this regardless of her politics).
Crystal Ball: Substantively smart, but her showy style engulfs her, making it hard to take seriously anything she says.
Toure: sniveling, posturing jerk.
Steve Kornacki, who is a keen political observer and has a to-the-point, clearcut delivery, ought to decamp pronto. This show has all the earmarks of a disaster. Or alternatively--lose the abovementioned three, and make this Steve's show.
I disliked Dylan Ratigan's affectless delivery and his inability to make concise statements, but The Cycle is far, far worse. Who is MSNBC hoping will watch? Why mimic Fox on this or anything??
I too was completely ready to blow this show off, but the first two programs were, dare i say it, impressive. It was clear that each of the talking heads had done their homework, so that even when Cupp went off on her soapbox, there were substantive rebuttals. Kornacki and Ball provide good analytic anchors yet Toure was surprisingly well apprised of the issues, and Cupp seemed to be able to reign in her fascist sensibilities. Moreover, the reporting from Egypt was concise yet nuanced and informative.
